EXECUTIVE PRESENCE: What’s the secret sauce?
Do you have that kind of energy?
You know that feeling when you walk into a room and everyone knows you’re the leader?
What is it and how can you embody it?
Even if they don’t know your name, people gravitate toward you instinctively. They want to be around someone who is confident, focused, and authentic. It’s like they can sense the vibe.
People are drawn to leaders who have a strong sense of self-awareness. This quality makes them better at understanding others and more relatable while inspiring trust and respect.
If this sounds like something you’d like to develop, let’s talk about Executive Presence.

Why Executive Presence Matters?
Executive presence isn’t new, but it can feel mysterious. Many people struggle to define it, yet everyone recognises it when they see it.
So what exactly is it?
It’s the ability to present yourself in a way that inspires trust, credibility, and poise. It’s that “it factor” — a blend of confidence, authenticity, and influence. It convinces others that you’re capable, composed, and someone worth following.
I like to define executive presence as how you signal leadership and cultivate leadership in others.
The Three Pillars of Executive Presence
- How you act
- How you look
- How you speak and communicate
Developing Self-Awareness in Communication
One key strategy I teach my clients is self-awareness in communication.
When speaking with team members, it’s essential to be mindful of your energy and intentions. Being more present and intentional helps others feel guided, understood, and supported.
A Simple Leadership Check-In Technique
A great technique to have in your leadership toolkit is to pause and check in with yourself.
Think about the energy you’re bringing and the message you’re sending.
Ask yourself:
- What do I want this person to experience with me?
- What do I want them to feel, even in a short five-minute conversation?
- How am I signalling leadership through my words, tone, and body language?
Communication Is the Core of Leadership
The biggest key to being an inspiring leader lies in your communication.
Are you speaking with confidence?
Do you engage with authenticity — or let intimidation take over?
What energy are you projecting when you speak?
Your tone, pace, and choice of words all send subconscious messages to your team. Taking one mindful breath before responding can shift everything.
Ask yourself:
- What am I truly trying to communicate here?
- What vibe am I sending out?
- What do I want my team to take away?
Employees naturally follow leaders who show self-awareness and emotional intelligence.

The Leadership Signal
Next time you engage with your team or colleagues, take a moment to check your executive presence.
Notice what messages you’re signalling and how they’re received.
This simple act helps others understand your intentions, builds trust, and strengthens relationships all while improving productivity, performance, and morale.
It’s important to remember that we’re always communicating, even subconsciously.
When we align our inner state with our outward expression, we become leaders people naturally want to follow.
